Aquatic Ideas, LLC is a custom swimming pool and spa design and construction company in Austin, Texas owned by Gary Westbrook. Aquatic Ideas’ main objective is to create aquatic living environments that are original, engaging and efficient.
SWIMMING POOL & SPA DESIGN: My design philosophy is that the aquatic environment is an extension of its setting and reflects the character of its owners. My designs are comprehensive and intuitive in nature, encompassing everything from pool and spa structures – naturalistic, freeform and linear pools with design elements such as: grotto waterfalls, vanishing edge, perimeter overflow, etc. – to landscaping – drought tolerant native plantings, xeriscapes and water conservation – to outdoor living amenities – pool houses, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, cabanas and arbors. My clients will find that the design process is relaxed and creative, while remaining purposeful and site sensitive.
I have had the privilege of designing hundreds of pools over the span of over twenty years, including the personal pools of some of the most prominent architects and builders in Austin. This has given me design experience in virtually every type of setting and circumstance- integrating architectural styles, challenging topography, confined spaces, multi-level concepts, and every backyard configuration imaginable. The greater the challenge, the greater the opportunity for an imaginative response. Always staying mindful of flow, usefulness and continuity are paramount in pool design. A well designed pool is the first critical step in a successful construction project.
CONSTRUCTION: My construction philosophy is that the building process is the execution and realization of the designer’s vision in its entirety as illustrated in the design. In order to achieve that end, there needs to be accurate interpretation, thoughtful preparation, planning and personal supervision.
My many years of experience conceptualizing, conscientious nature and methodical approach lend themselves naturally to carry out this philosophy. I actually begin building the project in my mind as I design – coming up with ideas for a strategy that is the most cost effective and efficient. This makes the transition from design to building a smooth one.
The intent behind this building strategy is not only for maximum efficiency, but – more importantly – to provide and ensure the best building experience with the least amount of stress possible for every customer. It is very important to me that all of my customers are happy with not only the finished project, but the building process itself. Therefore, Aquatic Ideas ensures the following on every project from start to finish: careful coordination, accessibility and communication with the customer, and my consistent presence on the construction site.
